Lucy

Originally from Oxfordshire, Lucy came to live in Woolwich via East Dulwich. Lucy is a white, British female and lives in Woolwich with her husband who is mixed race, African/white British. They bought their first home together here in 2020.

Lucy completed her photo journal and maps when she was 19 weeks pregnant, working from home during the covid pandemic. Her journal captured regular walking and running routes along the River, where she highlights views of the Thames Barrier and the Tate & Lyle Factory, as well as the green expanses of Woolwich Common and Barrack Field, and Maryon Wilson Park.

Extracts and photos

“I like getting out to wide spaces and a big expanse of air, which feels like a break from narrow London streets.”

“Woolwich Common feels like it’s far removed from the city and its rugged, often quite bleak when its grey. There are very few people around which can sometimes feel a bit isolating, but there is always a lot of traffic on Ha Ha Road – my favourite named street in the area.”

“I love getting to the river in the mornings when its sunny, and the contrast of the water with all the industrial buildings, factories and building works.”
